2020-2021 Season

Play on Words returned to the San Jose Museum of Art on Sunday, January 12, 2020, for Play On Words: Beyond Boundaries. Inspired in part by Pae White’s concept of defying boundaries, join San Jose’s literary performance series for a lively afternoon of stories, poems and vignettes by 15 Bay Area writers.

Though we had initially planned on returning to the Museum of Art in June 2020, unfortunately we had to cancel due to the Coronavirus health pandemic. We will be hosting our first virtual event in partnership with the museum on June 17, 2021.

We hope to resume regular quarterly shows once statewide, federal and global guidelines on shelter in place have determined the safest ways to offer in-person events.

Please contact us if you are interested in working with us.

Call for Submissions: Spring 2021

We are seeking short fiction, nonfiction, poetry, works of theatre and translation inspired by the theme for our June 2021 show: Immigrant Heritage. What is generational immigration? How and why do people find themselves in new places? How does origin relate to originality?

Please use this form to submit original work that can be performed aloud, either live on zoom by an actor, or filmed in advance and streamed as part of our run of show. We limit text to 1,500 words. Because this is for an online performance, we also welcome submissions that may have visual or audio accompaniments–anything that can be streamed online.
